Using an optical illusion, the work illustrates a creative solution for a current, real problem.
In the real world climbing steps is an extremely painful task for people suffering from arthritis.
On this two-dimensional plane, walking on a level footpath and climbing steps appear to be
distinguishable. The design was inspired by the work of the Dutch artist and graphic designer
Maurits Cornelis Escher.
