이상용품
1999년부터 2007년까지 제품에 있어 사용의 용이함이 최고 가치인 것으로 교육 받아왔다. 그래서 소비자가 사용하기 쉬운 제품에 대해서만 고민했다. 그런데 나는 산만한 사람이라 사용하기 쉬운 제품을 생각하면서도 주위를
두리번거리곤 했다. 둘러보니 수업시간에 공책 귀퉁이에 낙서 하는 것처럼 재미있는 작업을 하고 있었다. 드로흐 디자인(Droog Design), 진도구(珍道具), 이언 곤셔(Ian Gonsher), 알렉상드르 갤라르(Alexandre Gaillard). 그리고 게으름 탓에 이름을 확인하지 못한 다른 여러 디자이너와 스튜디오들. 2007년 6월부터 나도 딴짓을 시작했다. Droog스러운 것 진도구스러운 것 그리고 다른 여러 성향의 작업들이 산발적으로 나왔지만 이상용품이라는 이름 아래 하나로 묶었다. 그리고 운 좋게도 그것들을 모아 졸업 전시회에 '이상용품'이란 브랜드로 포장하여 내 놓을 수 있었다. 계속 딴짓 한다고 선생님이 뭐라고 하시면 시험은 잘 보겠습니다라고 응수하기로 하고 당분간은 일상용품을 이상(異常)하고 이상(理想的)적인 것으로 둔갑시키는 딴짓을 계속해 나가려 한다.


이상용품
From 1999~2007, I have been educated that good usability is absolute value in product design. Therefore I have tried to design product which has good usability. But I'm a discursive guy so I gazed around while thinking about usability. Many guys are doing funny works just like scribbling on the outside of note. Droog design, 珍道具(Jin-do-goo : Rare tool), Ian gonsher, Alexandre Gaillard, and other many unknown designers and studios. I started to make 'something' from July 2007. Various style of works are turned out sporadicaly. I can bind them into one under the name of "이상용품". And luckily, I could display it in the graduation exhibition.

* Explanation of brand name.
Pronunciation of "이상용품" is [i-sang-yong-poom]. 이상[i-sang] has two meanings.
One is 'wierd', and the other is 'ideal". And meaning of 용품[yong-poom] is supplies or necessaries.
So, 이상용품 is 'Daily supplies which are wierd and ideal'. In English, it can be expressed such as "Oddinaries".
