Background
Theme
of my thesis is 'Human sense and interface'. I plan to suggest several new
interfaces.
Thesis is not finished yet.But me and my friend(YoonHa Paik) made
a new interface concept in advance.

Objective
Future
mobile phone design which gives 'New experience and Convenience'

New interface
User
can have new experience when meets new way of use.
And new way of use is coming
from new interface.
Therefore, in order to create new experience, it needs to design new interface.

Interface in SF movie
and comic book
Some
interfaces in SF movies and comic books are realized and evaluated as a
brand-new-interface.
We thought that we can find a hint about future interface
in SF movie and comic book.
We started to investigate interface samples in SF
movies and comic books.
And a.interfaces
in routine life and b.interfaces in
advanced design projects are also
included in investigation as a target of
comparison.

* Collecting interface data
Analysis
a. New criterions are needed
to analyze wide and various interface samples.
b. Consideration – If
certain interface is made for human, it doesn’t need
the input which human can’t accept, and doesn’t need the output which
human can’t make (put out).
Human related things can be the criterions.
c. Set human body and sense
as new criterion.

d.Make a data map using ‘quantification
method Ⅲ’

e. Analyze the
data map – make three groups (routine, advanced, SF)
and compare to find out important points throughout the time.

Ideation
Ideation
is conducted focused on ‘Break from senses indigenous to human beings’.
For
example, new interface which make the taste (temperature, touch) can be heard.
‘Touch
by eye(gaze)’ is chosen as a final idea among them.

Concept

New experience – eye
control

1.If user
grabs the Eyecon, Infra-red will
come out from the front.
2.Infra-red
reflected by user’s pupil. Eyecon recognizes reflected infra-red and grasp
the
location of user’s gaze.
3.Gazed icon
is highlighted.
4.If user
presses OK button on the side, highlighted icon will be operated.
Convenience – one hand
operation, quickness, stability

1.One hand
operation: The main roll of hand is pressing OK button. There are not that many
cases that need both hands. Therefore, user can easily use Eyecon when they can’t
use both hand.
2.Quickness:
There is no finger moving process. Operation time can be shortened.
3.Stability: When user tries to press button which is located on bottom of screen by one hand,
it is very unstable. User may drop down mobile phone. But Eyecon always gives best grip to users.
